Copenhagen, Denmark, 18 June, 2020 – The TV stations’ joint steering group, which represents the largest Danish TV stations, and Nielsen (NYSE: NLSN) today announced a five-year agreement in which Nielsen is approved as a new provider of viewer survey in Denmark.
From 1 January 2022, Nielsen’s innovative solution will give the Danish market a comprehensive overview of viewer behavior on traditional TV distribution and streaming platforms. In addition to linear TV, this will mean the visibility of BVOD (Broadcast Video On Demand) services on connected TVs and digital devices in the home.
Nielsen’s solution is based on a solid and fully representative panel, which provides media owners and buyers with a detailed data set that covers a daily overview of how people interact with content across broadcast and streaming platforms. This hybrid approach enables a more holistic view of Danish viewer behavior and reflects the countless viewing options available today. This will benefit the players in the media industry, who will be better able to optimize e.g. media and advertising investments.
Chantale Coulombe, Media Commercial Leader at Nielsen Denmark, states: “This new world of video content is more complex to measure than ever before. Such a measurement requires an infrastructure that not only covers a wide range of new technical configurations to meet today’s needs, but it must also be able to evolve rapidly over time. Independent, reliable and innovative measurement is essential for media providers and buyers to act on the basis of measurements. Thanks to Nielsen’s good reputation, the Danish market now has the necessary trust and transparency to do so ”.
Matt O’Grady, Global Commercial President at Nielsen Media, adds: “Nielsen’s Streaming and Nano-meters, the company’s latest generation of TV panel technologies, as well as the latest digital solutions and methods for device panels, are implemented worldwide. We can guarantee that the implementation of our full product portfolio will give Danish media companies the linear data and streaming data they need to optimize their media investments.Based on our viewer surveys, which have been tested globally and which the market trusts, the Nielsen team will get strong from the start. “
Frederik Barnholdt, head of Market & Performance Measurement at TV 2 and chairman of the TV stations’ steering group behind the viewer survey, concludes: “Viewer behavior in Danish homes is changing rapidly, and we are pleased to have chosen Nielsen as viewer survey provider. Nielsen’s panel at 1750 households is the largest panel we have had to date and it will ensure a greater understanding of video consumption on broadcast and streaming platforms. “
