Nielsen’s headquarters for the 2019 Australian election

On 18 May 2019, Australians will vote in their new federal leadership. This year, Nieslen is using Election HQ, to understand how much is being spent on TV, print and radio for political advertising and what are the sentiments of new ad messaging each week. Our focus will be on the four major political parties Liberals, Labor, United Australia Party and Greens.

Looking back at the 2013 and 2016 federal elections, advertising spend was much more conservative. For both elections a large majority of spend came from the Liberal and Labor parties. However, since September 2018, the United Australia Party has already surpassed the total amount spent on both federal elections.
