We’re excited to announce that Nielsen clients will soon be able to receive credit within Digital Content Ratings for the viewership of their content published on Facebook, Hulu and YouTube. Digital Content Ratings provides daily measurement of audiences across digital content types, with metrics fully comparable to television. Partnering with these digital distributors to provide our clients with credit within Digital Content Ratings for the video viewership of their content published on these platforms is a huge milestone for Nielsen and a big opportunity for our clients.
“The inclusion of video content distributed on Facebook, Hulu and YouTube in Nielsen Digital Content Ratings is a major accomplishment and part of our ongoing commitment to provide the industry with independent, comprehensive measurement of the evolving consumer landscape,” said Megan Clarken, President of Product Leadership at Nielsen. “Through capturing this audience, Nielsen is providing publishers, agencies and advertisers with a better picture of today’s media consumption.”
At Nielsen, we’re dedicated to giving our clients a complete view of the total audience across the media landscape. With this new capability, we are taking another step in that direction, giving publisher clients the ability to get additional detail about the viewership of their content distributed on these major digital platforms, and more importantly, giving them credit for that viewing.
With this capability, Digital Content Ratings will give publishers, agencies and advertisers an independent third-party view of distributed content consumption across Facebook, Hulu and YouTube, showing them the reach of content beyond publisher-owned platforms. Nielsen will provide content owners and distributors with visibility to data for distributed video content. Providing a consistent and transparent view ensures a level playing field with access to the same information across both publishers and distributors.
We’ve received widespread industry support from clients such as BuzzFeed, Group Nine Media, Horizon Media, Magna Global, Mic, Refinery 29 and Tastemade.
