Total media use among adult Americans is 10.5 hours per day. We are seeing a change in where this time is spent: Web-connected devices, APP / web and the use of smartphones are gradually replacing other platforms. These changes do not come as a surprise, as close to 7 out of 10 households have a device capable of streaming content, and a similar proportion have access to at least one streaming service.
In this issue of Nielsen Total Audience Report, we share annual comparisons of media use, to show how consumption behavior has changed over time. In addition to the standard estimates for units and household types, we have looked at how digital consumption has developed over the past year. The report also provides insight into what affects consumers’ media use when accessing streaming audio and video content.
This report applies to the US market.
